Fini Flight Photo Session at Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, Texas

This day started out with me praying that the forecasted rain would hold off until later in the afternoon so we could have a successful fini flight! If you know anything about Del Rio, Texas, you know thunderstorms are a rare and precious gift, but I just didn't want that gift to arrive yet! We felt a few drops on our way to the flight line (perk of living on base, we were within walking distance) but thankfully the rain waited for the fini flight to end!

Now I didn't know what a fini flight was until just a few months ago so I'll give you a brief explanation. A fini flight, or final flight, is a tradition that marks the last time a pilot or crew member flies in a certain aircraft and/or their last time flying with a particular unit. This tradition started all the way back during World War II when pilots in the Army Air Corps returned from their final combat mission. The fini flight continued to make it's mark in history during the Vietnam War when pilots commemorated their 100th flight. Arguably one of the best traditions within the fini flight is getting sprayed with the water hose after you land!

I've always loved documentary style photography, so naturally getting to photograph this fini flight is one of the highlights of my career! Every time I pick up my camera, I learn something new. That's one of the best parts of being a photographer, the constant growth that occurs when you love what you do, and you allow yourself to get out of your comfort zone and photograph new things!

You guys truly were a dream to work with! From your obvious love for each other, to your beautiful smiles, you were one of the easiest couples to photograph. I couldn't help but share in your excitement during this amazing celebration! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be a part of your special day; I will never forget it! I wish you both all the best in this new chapter of your lives!
